Based in Naarm/Melbourne and working all over the place, Thomas is a documentary and portrait photographer.
He completed a Diploma in Photo-Imaging at the CCP; a Bachelor of English Literature & Philosophy at Concordia, Montréal; and an Honours in Poetry at the University of Adelaide, where he specialised in ekphrastic poetry.
Thinking through both the specificity and transferability of different media, his writing and images not only attempt to capture moments of identity and belonging, but to think through the ethical and aesthetic questions of how identity can be expressed in the moment of recognition.
Thomas is the co-founder of Person Books, a photo-book publishing house that works with artists to realise handmade, limited edition artist books.
His portrait of Nan Goldin was selected as one of the winners of the Perth Centre for Contemporary Photography portrait awards and more recently, exhibited as part of the Nobuyushi Araki exhibition in Switzerland. In the past decade he has lived in Montréal and Barcelona, and has been artist-in-residence in Norway (The Arctic Circle Residency), Catalonia (Jiwar Creació i Societat) and Barcelona (Centre d’Art i Natura).
A selection of his photographic archive can be licensed through Anna Morassutti Vitale: licensing@kintzing.com
